From chords to your first rhythm

A short guide to practising songs with Art Guitar.

What is Art Guitar?

Art Guitar is a song practice app for iOS, Android and the web. Follow chords and lyrics, explore instrument tabs and practice strumming patterns for your songs.

iOS · Android · Web

Practice chords and strumming together

Choose a song, open its chords and strumming view, and follow the chord changes alongside the downstrokes and upstrokes. Start slowly and listen to the recording to check the rhythm. Pattern availability varies by song.

What is free?

Browsing the song library is free. Importing new songs and opening strumming patterns have separate free allowances. Check the app for your remaining allowance and current subscription options; a strumming allowance is not a limit on browsing the library.

Are the chords and patterns always exact?

Automatically analysed chords, lyrics and patterns can contain mistakes. Compare them with the recording and use the app’s editing tools to correct chords and lyrics. A suggested strumming pattern is a practice aid, not a guarantee of the original guitarist’s exact performance.

A simple chords and strumming exercise

This is a generic 4/4 practice exercise, not a transcription of a song or an automatically generated Art Guitar result. Play one bar of each chord: Am → C → G → Em.

Count eight equal subdivisions: 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 &. First play a downstroke on each numbered beat, returning your hand silently on each &. When comfortable, sound the upstrokes on the & counts too. Change chord on beat 1 of the next bar; slow down if the change breaks the pulse.

Use it with a song

Open a song from the library and inspect its available chords and strumming pattern. Compare the rhythm with the recording before practising. This exercise is not a pattern that fits every song: the meter, tempo and chord-change timing may differ.

How do I practise a song that is missing from the library?

Use the app’s import flow for your song, then wait for analysis to finish before practising. Imports have their own allowance; availability depends on the source and processing result. Check the resulting chords and lyrics against the recording.

Can I correct an inaccurate result?

The app includes editing tools for chords and lyrics. Listen to the relevant passage, correct the result and play it again to check. Automatic analysis is a starting point, not a verified musical transcription.
